Previously I have written that I had problems with FreeDOS kernels newer than FreeDOS KE2036. I was both right and wrong. I had problems, but it was not the FreeDOS kernel that was causing the problems with hanging and crashes. It was FreeDOS COMMAND.COM which caused the problems. I tracked this by my network interface card, which reported that I had a DOS incompatible file loaded, and the incompatible file was COMMAND.COM. Now I am using the latest kernel the KE2041 and the compatible COMMAND.COM and it works great with PC/GEOS. I have also got rid of some FreeDOS bugs, which is also an improvement.
Now you probably wonder what COMMAND.COM file you should use? I recommend this COMMAND.COM:
