Good morning Hans. I would be interested in this old technology. I'm still annoyed that I haven't kept any of the PCs from my childhood. So I don't have a PC with ISA slots. So if no one else wants it, I'd be very happy to take it. Something like that should never be thrown away.
I think, It can work with my "Global PC".

Oh that sounds good. In the truest sense of the word. 
I could bring a monitor, that wouldn't be a problem. You don't have to lug it halfway across Europe. But an AT keyboard would be a problem for me - I only have one with a PS/2 connector.

I assume whis will "only" compare the hardware OPL chip sound with the simulated sounds of the DosBox/DosEmu emulator. But that is a great thing! I' very interested in!
Please correct me, if I'm wrong, but the sound blaster has no "original build in sounds". It has the OPL chips, which are programmed by the software - in our case the GEOS sound blaster driver.

Then you need a redirection of midi-output to the Joystickport under plain-DOS. You have to write a driver for Geos or look for a TSR called "SoftMPU". But I haven't tested SoftMPU.
Per default, the SB16 only supports „external MIDI“, OPL and „WAV“.
Only starting with the Awe32, the Soundblasters also had an „internal MIDI“ that used sampled instruments and more simultaneous tracks.
(Of course, that is the hardware point of view. There always had been software that played back several different samples simultaneously, e.g. „MOD“-players - see https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trackermodul )
