We have had two cases reported of users with 9-pin Epson FX-compatible printers getting an "echo" effect at the bottom of printouts, as if the printer suddenly went into auto-linefeed mode, but just for the last line. Basically, whatever is on the very bottom of the printout gets repeated three times.

The problem occurred in all quality settings, and on any port setting (7, BIOS, DOS). It happened with versions 1.2.9 and 1.2.8 of the software.

It seems likely to have been caused by an as-yet-unidentified problem in the PC itself, since the printers were different: a Tandy DMP-136 color 9-pin and a Panasonic KXP-1180--a printer that many of our customers use successfully.

Suggested work around: when you get to the bottom of a document, hit return a couple of times to get a line or two below your text, and type a period. The period may then be echoed, which is not perfect, but may be better than having a bunch of text echoed.

PROBLEM: There is no specific driver for this printer, but the manual recommends several alternatives including the IBM Proprinter and Proprinter II. With each of these, the printing begins further down on the page than necessary and flows onto the top of the next page in proportion. Any suggestions for a fix or possibly a specific driver?

SOLUTION: The answer here is to adjust the page and paper sizes for the printer. There are several printers out there that do this. It takes some calculation and work to set everything up just right.

Start out by changing the default Paper and Page settings in Preferences, Printer to 10 inches. Also, change the top margin of the document to .25" (the smallest allowed). Now try printing out the document. It should fit OK, but sometimes a little tweaking is needed on the Paper and Page defaults to get it correct. The loss of 1" of document will be absorbed by the header. This 1" loss will most likely result in the loss of the whole header, unless you change the top margin to around 2", and compensate by changing the bottom margin to 1/4".
