When running NewDeal from Windows 95 or 98, if the Windows Lexmark Control Panel causes your computer to taskswitch back to Windows do this:
  1. In Windows Start menu, choose Setting, Printers.
  2. Right click on the icon for your printer.
  3. Remove the checkmark from Show Monitor.

Lexmark 1000 or 7000

According to Lexmark, the model 1000 and 7000 are Windows-only printers that perform most of their control in software in the Windows driver, so you must run New Deal Office from Windows in order to print.

The printers are HP DeskJet compatible, so they should work with the DeskJet drivers in New Deal Office. However, New Deal does not own and has not tested the Lexmark 1000 or 7000 specifically.

The LEXMARK 1000 or 7000 will ONLY print from NewDeal if you run NewDeal from Windows. They will not print from NewDeal if you run NewDeal from a native (non-Windows) DOS session. The only exception is that you can print to file from NewDeal, and then later print from that file in a DOS window launched from within Windows.

If you print to a file in NewDeal using the HP DeskJet 500 or 500C printer driver, that print file can then be copied to the Lexmark 1000 or 7000 from within a Windows DOS box. In order to do this you must:

  1. Exit Windows and run NewDeal.
  2. Select and install the HP DeskJet 500 or HP 500C printer driver in NewDeal's Preferences, Printer.
  3. Print to a file using that driver.
  4. Exit NewDeal and run Windows.
  5. In a DOS box under Windows, copy the print file generated above to the port where the printer is connected. This command may look like:
    copy filename lpt1: /b
Where filename is the name of the print file you generated and lpt1: is the port where the Lexmark printer is connected. Do not use the DOS "PRINT" command.

Only 1 DOS box supported at a time

The Lexmark 1000 or 7000 printer drivers only support printing from a single DOS box at a time. This is the case even if there are multiple Lexmark printers attached to multiple printer ports. Furthermore, there have been problems seen w/ sending a DOS job to the port and then switching to other windows based applications. It is Lexmark's recommendation that if you are printing from a DOS based application or DOS box, you wait until the job is complete before proceeding to do anything else with your PC.

Lexmark Control Program comes to the Foreground

This is how the printer functions by default. If you do not want to be interrupted while printing, select Run Minimized from the Options tab in the Lexmark Control Program.

Using a HP500C printer driver; blank pages are printed

The Lexmark emulates an HP DeskJet 500C if you print from NewDeal while running NewDeal from Windows. If only blank pages are printed, make sure the orientation setting, found in the DOS Printing section of the Lexmark Control Program, is set to portrait mode.

Using HP 500/500C printer driver; single page prints on multiple pages This problem can result from task-switching during a print job or from an application that is slow in sending data to the printer port. If you are running NewDeal from the Windows MS-DOS PROMPT, you can correct the problem by enabling Background Execution as follows:

  1. Run the PIF Editor program found in the Windows Main folder.
  2. Load the file "DOSPRMPT.PIF" found in the C:\WINDOWS directory.
  3. Select and activate the box labeled Background found in the Execution section at the bottom-right of the PIF Editor screen.
  4. Select File and then Save.
This turns on background execution for all future DOS sessions. If you are running NewDeal from a Windows shortcut or PIF file, consult your Windows documentation about enabling background execution.

Another solution to this problem is to select Run Minimized from the Options tab of the Lexmark Control Program. This will allow NewDeal to remain in the foreground when printing instead of bringing the Control Program to the foreground.

If you are seeing single page print jobs printing on multiple pages, the port may be timing out because the application is taking too long to process the job. This problem is more likely to occur on slower computer. In order to compensate for slower computers and/or applications you can increase the Form Feed Timeout value in the DOS Printing tab of the Lexmark Control Program.

Lexmark Color Jetprinter 1020

The minimum required system for use with the Color Jetprinter 1020 is: The Color Jetprinter 1020 does not support printing directly from DOS applications outside the Windows operating system. The Color Jetprinter 1020 does not support printing under the IBM OS/2 or Windows NT operating systems. The Color Jetprinter 1020 can print from any DOS application running under Windows that includes an HP PCL3 driver. Run NewDeal from Windows and you should be able to print with the HP DeskJet 550C series of drivers.
