NewDeal Technical Support Document 272
Specific Printer Notes, IBM
This document contains notes about using IBM
printers with NewDeal software
Note: You must have NewDeal software to use NewDeal print drivers.
NewDeal print drivers will not work with other Windows, OS/2, or DOS programs.
IBM 2390 series II
IBM 4019
IBM 5182
IBM ExecJet 4072
IBM PS/1 printer
IBM Quietwriter II
If you have trouble with the 2390, try the IBM Proprinter
X24 driver.
The IBM 4019 can do three emulations if you buy the
most expensive version:
- PostScript
- PPDS (IBM proprietary mode)
- HP emulation (PCL mode)
To get into PPDS mode - This is the default mode
and you can get into that mode by simply turning on the printer.
To be extra sure, you can restore the factory default settings
by turning on the printer while holding down start/stop + print/check
buttons.
To get into HP mode, hold down the font button while
turning on the printer.
To get into PostScript mode, hold down the paper
+ font buttons while turning on the printer.
If the printer is already on and you want to know
what mode it is in just press the orientation button and the LCD
will display a number.
- 1 = PPDS
- 2 = HP
- 8 = PostScript
Since there is no PPDS driver for version 1.x of
the software, use HP or PostScript mode. Starting with version
2.0, we offer drivers for all three modes.
The 5182 color printer has been discontinued since
1987. According to IBM tech support, it uses the Epson standard
printer codes. You can try choosing one of the printers that uses
the EPSON9.GEO driver, but officially this printer is not supported.
Using the Proprinter driver leaves 1/16" white horizontal
spaces every 1/4". The width appears scrunched (test page
brackets are 1" or so from the left and right margins), while
the length appears stretched maybe five inches.
The 4072 ExecJet is actually a Canon BJ-330. The
mode that gives the best output is the IBM mode, using the Canon
BJ-130e driver. The ExecJet is a listed printer starting in version
1.2.8 of the software.
It is basically an IBM Proprinter X24E with some
minor twists. Try the IBM Proprinter X24 driver first, and if
you don't get good results with that driver, try the Proprinter
III driver.
The Quietwriter II printer using the Proprinter 3
driver will print, but it will not advance the paper.
