ERROR MESSAGES, PART 1


NewCalc, Document Control, Program Switching, and NewDex Error Messages

NewCalc Errors

CL-01: The header and footer are so large there isn't any room for the document on the page.

CL-02: Result should be a cell or range. Unable to do automatic recalculation. No more memory. Close some windows or applications to free up memory.

CL-03: There is nothing to print. You must turn on at least one of the NewCalc print options (Print Spreadsheet, Print Graphics, Print Cell Notes) in order to print.

CL-04: There are no series in the data to be charted. Please make sure that there is at least one row of numbers in the range that you select to create a chart.

CL-05: For an X-Y Plot or a High/Low chart, you need at least 2 series of data.

CL-06: There are no categories in the range you have selected. Please make sure that there is at least one column of numbers in the range that you select to create a chart.

CL-07: There are too many series (rows) of data in the range that you have selected for charting. Please select a smaller range.

CL-08: There are too many categories (columns) of data in the range that you have selected for charting. Please select a smaller range.

CL-09: Could not find a starting date. When filling a series by date, the first (upper-left) cell of the range must contain a starting date.

CL-10: Step value too large. When filling a series by date, the step must be between -90 and 90.

CL-11: Unable to create a chart. There are already 256 charts in this document.

CL-12: Unable to create a chart. No more memory. Close some windows or applications to free up memory.

CL-13: Unable to create a chart. The selected range has no data. Please select a different range.

CL-14: Cannot shift data cells off the spreadsheet.

Book Reader Errors

CV-01: File [name] not found. You may need to re-install the book.

CV-02: Unable to find the desired page in content file [name].

CV-03: The decompression library could not be loaded. You may need to re-install your software.

CV-04: The file [name] is not a valid content file. You may need to re-install the book.

CV-05: The file [name] is incompatible with this version of the software.

CV-06: Error deleting the book file [name]

CV-07: Could not find the book folder "USERDATA\[name]

CV-08: The file [name] is not a valid book file. You may need to re-install the book.

CV-09: Could not find the book file's directory "DOCUMENT\[name]

CV-10: The book [name] was not found. You may need to re-install the book.

CV-11: The book [name] is incompatible with this version of the software.

CV-12: The book [name] has no files. You may need to re-install the book.

CV-13: The file [name] could not be opened for searching. You may need to re-install the book.

CV-14: Unable to find page [name] in this file. You may need to re-install the book.

CV-15: Error deleting the book folder [name]

CV-16: The book [name] is on a write-protected disk or in read-only memory and cannot be deleted.

Document Control Errors

If DC- error messages show up when you try to launch NewWrite or NewDraw, they might be caused by corrupt NewWrite Untitled or NewDraw Untitled files. To eliminate that possible cause, just go into your \DOCUMENT directory and delete all the NewWrite Untitled and NewDraw Untitled files.

DC-01: You cannot have more than 99 untitled documents. Close or remove some of these documents before continuing.

DC-02: There is not enough free space on the disk to [perform the action]. Remove some files from the disk to free up space.

DC-03: There are too many open files to [perform the action]. DOS, SHARE.EXE, or a network may be limiting the number of files that can be open at once. Consult the appropriate manual for assistance.

DC-04: Could not [perform the action]. You may wish to try again. If the problem continues, the disk may contain errors or be unreadable.

DC-05: The disk is write protected. Remove the write protection and click OK to try to [perform the action] again, or click Cancel.

DC-06: Could not [action]. The document is already open. You may have it open in another application or, if you are on a network, someone else may be using it.

DC-08: The document is damaged. You will need to restore it from a backup copy to continue.

DC-09: The document [filename] cannot be opened because it was created with an older version of this application.

DC-10: The document [filename] cannot be opened because it was created with a more recent version of this application. This error message may also be generated by a corrupt file. NewDOS documents have a version number built into the header. If that byte or bytes are wrong, it can cause this message to be generated.

DC-11: The document [filename] is not a type that can be opened by this application.

DC-12: Could not save document [filename] - DOS or network reports error [#]. You may wish to try again or consult your DOS or network manual.

DC-13: An error was encountered trying to change the type of [expression]. The operation could not be completed.

DC-14: An error was encountered while trying to change the password for [filename]. The operation could not be completed.

DC-15: An error occurred while trying to rename the document. The operation could not be completed.

DC-16: An error occurred while trying to back up the document. The operation could not be completed.

DC-17: Are you sure you want to revert to the backup copy of " An error occurred trying to revert to the backup copy of this document. The operation could not be completed.

DC-18: An error occurred trying to set the default empty document. The operation could not be completed.

DC-19: The name [filename] is not a legal name for a document for this application.

DC-20: The file already has this name. Please give it a different name.

DC-21: Could not move [name]. The document is read-only and may not be moved.

DC-22: Unable to overwrite [name]. The document may be read-only or may already be in use.

DC-23: Could not move document [name] - DOS or network reports error #[number]. You may wish to try again or consult your DOS or network manual.

Program Switching Error Messages (DE-xx)

These error messages indicate problems switching to and from DOS programs.

DE-01. Unable to run DOS program.

DE-02. Could not find loader. You may need to re-install your software.

DE-03. Not enough DOS memory to continue. A DOS program may not have released all the memory it used. Restart your computer.

Draw Errors

DR-01: For Paste Inside to work correctly the object(s) you cut must overlap the object(s) within which you are trying to paste.

DR-02: Selected object(s) are too wide to convert to a bit map.

NewDex Errors

DX-01: Your modem has not been configured. Check to see that your modem preferences have been set.

DX-02: There is not enough memory available to continue. Try closing some applications.

DX-03: Unable to connect with NewPlanner.

DX-04: The NewDex address book document is empty.

DX-05: A NewDex document must be open before you can search for text.

DX-06: New entries cannot be created in Browse View. Use the Card View for this task.

DX-07: The address field for this entry is getting too big. Some text at the end of the address field may not be saved.

DX-08: There is no telephone number to dial.

DX-09: Cannot create another phone name. Use an existing name or leave the field blank.

DX-10: Could not dial. The system serial driver was not loaded.

DX-11: Unable to load the system serial driver. You will not be able to dial for NewDex.

DX-12: Couldn't dial. The port is currently in use.

DX-13: The modem is not responding. Check the modem connections. Verify that the modem preferences are set correctly. Try dialing again.

DX-14: There were some records that did not have any data in the index fields. These records have not been imported.
