Installing MagicRAM drivers on the OmniGo

To install MagicRAM drivers on the OmniGo you will need the following:
 - Laptop or Desktop PC with a serial port and floppy
 - Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 installed on your PC
 - Serial interface cable, available in the OmniGo connectivity pack

In order to transfer the required driver from the PC to the OmniGo, you must
first install the Geoworks Installer package. Please follow the procedures
detailed below. The quick installation will allow you to install the driver
directly from the floppy disk.

Before you begin, make a back up copy of your installation diskette and use
it to install your driver.

Quick Installation

Do not format the MagicRAM Flash card in the OmniGo because this will erase
critical files and the card will not be recognized.

Preparing the OmniGo for driver transfer:
1. Connect the cable from the OmniGo to the serial port on the PC. Please
note which COM port you use on your PC. You will need this information when
   you run the Installer.
2. From the OmniGo s Home Screen select the "Transfer" icon.
3. In Transfer select the PC... icon and then select Connect.
4. The OmniGo is now ready to receive the driver from the PC.

Preparing the PC for driver transfer:
1. From the Windows Program Manager select: File.
2. Then select: Run.
3. In the Command Line field enter: a:\omnigo\install and then press ENTER.
4. In the "Choose Destination" Window, make sure that "OmniGo or PCMCIA card
via serial cable" is selected and then press ENTER.
5. Select the COM port to which you connected the cable.
6. Select the "Main Memory" Option.
7. Select the "Install" option (click the mouse or press Alt-I) to copy the
   file to the OmniGo.
8. A status bar will be displayed showing the transfer status.
9. When the transfer has completed, exit the program. The driver is now
   installed on the OmniGo.

To complete the installation procedure you must now reboot the OmniGo. This
is done by simultaneously pressing the Shift, ON & NEXT keys. Note that then
Shift key is the key.

Your OmniGo is now ready to store data on the Flash PC Card (PCMCIA).

Using MagicRAM Flash Card on the OmniGo

Do not format MagicRAM Flash Card in the OmniGo because this will erase
critical files and the card will not be recognized.

To ensure reliable operation of the OmniGo, please follow the instructions
below:

The OmniGo does not support insertion and removal of any PC card while the
unit is ON. Thus, the OmniGo must be turned OFF before inserting any card
into the socket. In addition, before the card is removed, the "Card Removal"
icon should be selected. This icon is located at the bottom of the Home Screen
and it will ensure that the system is powered down before the card is removed.
This icon will also indicate when a card has been inserted into the socket by
changing to a darker outline of a PC Card.

After installing the card, you can backup your databases to the card by going
to the Transfer utility. In this utility you can select which databases to
backup by highlighting them or tapping on the appropriate names. After
selecting the databases, choose the "Copy" option. Your data will now be
copied to the Flash card.

Note, in order to maximize the battery life of the OmniGo, the transfer rate
to the Flash card has been limited. This will only be noticeable when backing
up large databases to the Flash card. The read performance is the same as
SRAM cards.

Installing MagicRAM drivers on a PC

In order to transfer files between your OmniGo and your laptop or desktop PC,
you will need to have a PC Card (PCMCIA) socket in your PC and MagicRAM drivers
installed. To install MagicRAM drivers on your PC, run the Install program
from the floppy. Note that this is NOT the same install program you used to
transfer the driver to the OmniGo. This installation program is located in
the root directory of the floppy, i.e. a:\install or b:\install.

Quick Installation

Please follow the steps detailed below:

1. If you are running Windows, exit to DOS.
2. Insert the support floppy into drive a: or b: on your PC.
3. Type: A:\INSTALL (or B:\INSTALL if you inserted the floppy in the b: drive).
4. When prompted with /DRIVE= press ENTER.
5. When prompted for additional input press ENTER to select the default values.
6. After the installation has completed you must reboot your PC for the drivers
   to take effect.
7. After rebooting, the drive letters assigned to the PCMCIA sockets in your
   PC will be displayed.
8. Insert MagicRAM Flash card and access it using the drive letter displayed.
The Flash card can now be used just like your regular hard disk. Any files
saved to a Flash Card in the OmniGo can now be accessed on your PC.

Note: you can use the TINFO utility located in C:\MAXFLASH to query the card
and find out which drive letter is assigned to it.
